NEW DELHI: The Delhi High Court has awarded a compensation of Rs 7.5 lakh to the woman who was raped inside Shanti Mukund hospital in east Delhi three years ago.
Appearing for the victim, senior advocate Aman Lekhi countered the hospital's arguments on the petition's maintainability by citing various Supreme Court judgements which categorically state that in sensitive cases like these, thecourts should take an unconventional approach.

Lekhi said the hospital was performing a public duty and the high court, therefore, should hear the petition.
About negligence, Lekhi said the victim was not given proper care and attention. He supported his claim with the inquiry committee's report which had three years ago indicted the private hospital for not performing its duty.
Lekhi said the hospital did not have proper arrangements to deal with ocular emergencies and the victim was not administered prophylaxis against STD or HIV conception.
Even though she had received injury in her eye, as it had been gouged by the accused, the hospital examined it for the first time four-and-a-half hours after the incident.
GTB was found guilty as it had referred the victim back to Shanti Mukund, and instead of conducting surgery, it had simply bandaged it.
